Hollowing the inside
This section describes how to create the inside of the torch case.
| ¡ | Make sure your torch outline sketch looks like the one above. |
| ¡ | To create a new extrusion (that removes material) to hollow out the shape we need to create a new sketch on the base workplane. (It is always best to only extrude once per sketch. Complex shapes with multiple extrusions can be created using multiple sketches). |

. . . to open base workplane properties

| ¡ | Select new sketch . . . |

. . . and give the new sketch a meaningful name such as "Inside".
| ¡ | Expand the base workplane in the browser pane (on the left hand side) . . . |

. . . you should see your new sketch listed. The sketch title is shown in bold it means this is the current sketch to which any new lines will be added. (You can switch current sketch at any time by double clicking the appropriate pencil

| ¡ | Switch to square-on view by pressing SHIFT W. Although this gives a view square onto the Initial sketch, remember the currently active sketch is the new one we have just added. (Think of each sketch on the base workplane as being drawn on tracing paper so that we can see all of them at the same time). |

| ¡ | Add a new circle concentric with the main body of the torch case. Set its radius to 13.5mm. |

| ¡ | Switch to isometric view (SHIFT I). |

| ¡ | Select the extrude profile button |

. . . set the extrusion to subtract material and the extrude distance to 8mm. (Remember: the thickness of the key fob was set to 10mm. Removing material to a distance of 8mm means that the lid will have a thickness of 2mm.)

| ¡ | Check the extrusion preview (shown on yellow) to make sure the extrusion is removing material from inside the case. (Note: A common error at this point is to set the direction incorrectly - this will be obvious from the preview). |
| ¡ | Click OK if the extrusion preview looks . |

| ¡ | To see the inside of the your torch case you need to rotate the model. To do this, place your cursor to one side of the torch case and hold down the scroll wheel button. The cursor will change to this shape . . . |
![]()
. . . now drag the mouse downwards to turn the torch case over.
