This help file is intended as a repository for information useful to our students to access from school and from home. We hope that by providing this information in one place, that students will turn to it as a first port-of-call and develop the habit of actually using it! This file is not yet complete, it probably never will be as change in electronics happens at an ever increasing pace. The advantages of packaging the information in a web based help file is the ease with which it can be maintained, cross-referenced and made interactive.
Parents often ask about text book resources for electronics. Text books do exist, and we have used them in the past but they date very quickly and often do not refer to the physical resources we use. They also have a habit of disappearing! As we are fortunate to have a computer workstation for every student in the class, we can afford to operate a 'paper less' environment. Not only do students produce all their work using IT, they also use IT to reference information. Electronics is a subject that lends itself particularly well to this style of delivery because of the close link between IT and electronics. Electronic engineers are, by their nature, keen to pass on their interest; they were among the first to realise the value of the internet for that purpose and the result is a massive amount of information on electronics for all abilities ready at hand.
Computer applications we use and which are referred to are:
| ¡ | Ranger2Xl and CircuitWizard for pcb schematic capture and design |
| ¡ | Livewire and CircuitWizard for circuit simulation |
| ¡ | Control studio for system simulation |
| ¡ | ProDesktop |
| ¡ | TNT for capturing screen clips |
| ¡ | eChip, PICAXE and CircuitWizard for PIC programming |
Further information about these applications will appear in Resources ![]()
