Ø Remote controlled camera mount by Adrian Morrison
Adrian has used the 4-bit IR remote control system (available from Rapid Electroincs) to control the camera positioning motors. The electronic control system is similar to a two motor buggy system except that the motors drive cranks instead of wheels.

Ø Beam break alarm by Gemini Dhokia to protect a parked car.
Gemini has used the transmitter side of the 4-bit IR remote control system to generate a modulated IR beam. A modulated IR detector constantly resets a monostable. When the beam is broken the monostable times out and sets a latch to sound the alarm. The alarm is for use with a car parked outside the home. If the car is moved, an alarm sound inside the house.
Ø Proximity controlled lamp by Gareth Morris
Gareth has used the transmitter side of the 4-bit IR remote control system to generate a modulated IR beam. A modulated IR detector senses a signal reflected from a users hand placed near the base of the lamp. Each time a signal is sensed, the lamp toggles on or off..
